After an eleven hour layover in Santiago, and over 24 hours since I left New York, I am finally in Patagonia. It’s been raining all day in Puerto Montt. Scott arrived two and a half hours ahead of me. I dosed off for a moment on the plane ride and got a chill of excitement when the plane broke through the clouds. It’s was so green and enchanting below. Exhausted and running on adrenaline, I reassembled my bike in the airport arrival area. My name is Robert Hickman. I'm an artist and college professor from Brooklyn, NY. I make sculptural objects, installations, and public art. I've done many transportation related public art projects, the best known being the skylight for the 72nd street subway station on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I'm recognized for my unicycling and project to cross every single bridge in New York City on a unicycle. I commute everywhere in NYC by bike, often with my dog Blanka . In 2018 I rode coast to coast following the ACA TransAmerica trail. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. This past summer I cycled across the US following the ACA Northern Tier route. I'm addicted to cycling adventures. Heading south by bus Day #3 El Calfate to Puerto Natales, Chile

January 16, 2020 El Calfate to Puerto Natales, Chile by bus I slept reasonably well in the ghetto Estadía A.M.S.A. campground in El Calafate. I had to get up a few times during the night and one of my shoes had dog poop stuck to the tread. The stars were brilliant, but there was a bright light in the next lot. Scott woke up at 7am, before me. My tent was wet with condensation, and I moved everything to a patch of sun to dry. There was human poop and toilet paper in the grass and I was careful not to step in it or soil my gear. The shower was a bare trickle of hot water and I was able to clean myself. I also scrubbed the dog poop off the bottom of my shoe. I talked with two cyclists whom had camped near us. A guy from Santiago had flown here two days ago and was beginning his northbound Carretera Austral ride to Coyhaique. I gave him a tube of patch cement.
